Just days after Bigme launched a crowdfunding campaign for a dual-screen smartphone with an E Ink display on one side and an LCD display on the other, Hisense has introduced a phone with similar features.
But there’s one key thing that sets the Hisense A10 apart from the Bigme HiBreak Dual: the LCD display for the Hisense phone is detachable. When removed, you have a phone with just one display. But you have the option of sticking a full color LCD screen on the back of the phone when you want it.
Hisense has been making smartphones with E Ink displays for years, and this isn’t even the company’s first dual-screen model. The Hisense A2 Pro launched in China nearly a decade ago, with a 5.5 inch AMOLED screen on one side and a 5.2 inch E Ink display on the other.
But this is the first new E Ink phone the company has released since launching the Hisense A9 in 2022.
The new model seems a lot like the Bigme HiBreak Dual on paper. Both have MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processors and 6.13 inch E Ink displays on one side and 5 inch LCD screens on the other. The E Ink display offers a paper-like viewing experience, sunlight visibility, and the ability to read using ambient light or a front-light, while the LCD display is a full color display with support for refresh rates fast enough for video, games, and smooth scrolling and other animations.
Both phones come with either 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage or 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. And both ship with Android 16 pre-installed.
But while the Bigme HiBreak Dual looks like an E Ink phone with a chunky LCD display tacked onto the back, there’s no simple way to remove that second screen. The Hisense A10, meanwhile, has an LCD display that snaps magnetically to the back of the phone, below the camera bar.

Hisense hasn’t provided details about how the detachable screen communicates with the phone, so it’s unclear to me whether it uses a USB or wireless connection, or perhaps pogo pins. But several sources indicate that the Hisense A10 is expected to sell for around $590 when it goes on sale in China. There’s no word on if or when it will be available in other countries.
